For Janice Day and husband Peter, the solution was obvious. Janice’s parents George Cooper, 89, and Vila Cooper, 86, were living in Swansea, two hours away from her home in Greystanes, when her father’s health began to fail.
Having worked in aged-care accreditation, Janice says she did not think it would suit her parents’ independent lifestyle to move into an appropriate facility and it would have been difficult to keep their pet dog.
With their own children grown and flown from the nest, asking her parents to leave their home and move in with Janice and Peter seemed to be the best option. In order to give everyone room to move, they decided to build a granny flat. Watch the video above to hear more about Janice and Peter’s story
